Species: BERYL Locality: Island Mine, Alstead, NH Specimen Size: 6 cm specimen Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: NC Notes: I trimmed down a beryl containing six inch Island Mine chunk to 2 1/4 inches. The beryl, although a nice gemmy aqua, had a very irregular termination, so not a remarkable specimen. The Island mine produced some very nice aquamarine, but very little is seen today, (no gem crystal examples on mindat.org as of 8/21.) Most of the Island Mine dump is in a swamp, that depending on beaver activity, may be under water. This specimen was collected several decades ago. |

Species: MONTEBRASITE Locality: Chandlers Mill Mine, Newport, NH Specimen Size: 8 mm field of view. A pair of flat, angular, milky, montebrasite crystals Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: 1611 Notes: These crystals are on a specimen with ruifrancoite, a roscherite group mineral. Montebrasite confirmed by polished grain EDS analyses (BC378 set 28) and Raman spectroscopy. Montebrasite chemistry is LiAlPO4(OH,F). Note, EDS cannot detect lithium. |

Species: AUTUNITE Locality: Parker Mtn. Mine, Strafford, NH Specimen Size: 0.12 autunite crystal Field Collected: Anna Wilken - 5/21 Catalog No.: An Anna Wilken specimen Notes: [bw] "Anna pulled a Parker chunk out of my chuck bucket and found some tiny-tiny autunite crystals with the help of the UV light." |

Species: ORTHOCLASE var. ADULARIA Locality: Audley Quarry, Merrimack, NH Specimen Size: 8 mm field of view Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: TBC Notes: Rhombic, prismatic, adularia crystals to 1 mm. EDS confirmed as K feldspar. The zygadite variety of albite may have a similar appearance, so this motovated an EDS analysis, BC371 set 28. |

Species: QUARTZ Locality: Palermo Mine, Groton, NH Specimen Size: 6 cm specimen Field Collected: Bob Janules - 1980 Catalog No.: A Bob Janules collection specimen Notes: Micro altered childrenite (brown) are present on this specimen. |
|
Species: SILLIMANITE Locality: East Side Warren Lake, Alstead, NH Specimen Size: 2.4 cm specimen with 1.4 cm embedded sillimanite crystal Field Collected: Tom Mortimer - 4/22/05 Catalog No.: u638 Notes: Cream-colored sillimanite crystal with biotite. |
|
Species: CALCITE Locality: Rt. 93 Road Cut, Littleton, NH Specimen Size: 4.2 cm calcite cleavage Field Collected: Unknown. Purchased by Ray Meyers from Yankee Minerals. Two mindat.org photoed specimens were collected by Bob Whitmore. Catalog No.: 2141 Notes: No significant fluorescence detected. |

Species: PHOSPHOSIDERITE Locality: Valencia Mine, Groton, NH Specimen Size: 2.5 cm specimen. George Adleman full specimen photo. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: Gifted to George Adleman Notes: A micro crystaline crust of brown coated square plates of phosphosiderite. The plates are clear beneath the well bonded brown crust. The black matrix is rockbridgeite. A George Adleman Raman spectrum , Raman spectrum2 was an excellent match for phosphosiderite. |

Species: PHOSPHOSIDERITE Locality: Valencia Mine, Groton, NH Specimen Size: 8 mm field of view Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u2510 Notes: A micro crystaline crust of flat tabular plates of phosphosiderite on rockbridgeite botryoids. A George Adleman Raman spectrum was an excellent match for phosphosiderite. |

Species: MUSCOVITE Locality: Valencia Mine, Groton, NH Specimen Size: 1.1 mm field of view top photo, 2 mm field of view lower photo. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u843 Notes: First impression was that these were leucophosphite or phosphosiderite, but now quite sure these are muscovite. In one specimen area the crystals have an orange oxide coating (second photo). This coating gives the crystals more contrast in the photo. The orange coating illustrates the importance of not relying heavily on color for an identification. |
